The Citadel
There's nowhere quite like The Citadel. It opened on 17 April 1920 as Murwillumbah's Salvation Army Citadel, and for 71 years the building was filled with worship, brass bands, drums and tambourines. After it was sold in 1991 it lived several lives (antique shop, private residence, haberdashery) before finding a new purpose as an arts and performance venue.
That musical history suits it. Today the room hosts touring musicians alongside local performers, original singer-songwriter nights and other creative events, with a licensed bar and food keeping things relaxed. It's personal, slightly unexpected and exactly the kind of place that makes a night in Murwillumbah memorable.
