The Imperial Hotel
You can't really miss the Impy. A timber Imperial Hotel stood on this site before 1906, only to be destroyed in the 1907 Murwillumbah fire. Rebuilt in 1908, it burned again in another major town fire in 1929. The current hotel, completed in 1931 and funded by Tooheys Brewery, became one of the town's distinctive landmarks.
A revamp from 2016 kept the details from its past and brought the rest into a new era. Today the big pink building holds a bar, bistro, bottle shop, live entertainment, function spaces and 29 boutique rooms. There's a resident ghost too, by the Impy's own account, which seems fair for a pub that's survived two fires and almost a century of Murwillumbah nights. Come for dinner, meet for a drink, catch some music, or find a spot and see where the night goes.
